Ilaeira mountain resort is situated in “Toriza” settlement where the asphalt road leads to the heart of the mountain. Walking, however, remains the only way to truly appreciate the natural and cultural wealth of the Taygetus mountain.
Trekking, climbing and mountain biking Mt. Taygetus offers opportunities for trekking and climbing in all seasons: in some areas nice, hospitable walks for trekkers, in others challenging climbs for mountaineers. All trekking and climbing trails are marked to provide safety and security (European E4 trail, National E32 and E33 trail). The classic ascent to the summit of Taygetus starts from the spring of Maganiari near the hotel. The highest peak of the mountain is known for displaying the approximate shape of a pyramid. Throughout the year people from all over the world visit the mountain to see the pyramid. A church of the prophet Elias is located near the highest peak, which is an approximately 3 hour tour by foot. There are also many opportunities for sports in an environment of wild, mountain beauty, such as mountain biking and four-wheel driving (4x4).
Modern city In the centre of the Modern city visitors are impressed by the recently refurbished square where the most imposing building of Sparta, the City Hall, stands out. Around the square there are coffee shops, restaurants, patisseries, commercial stores and bars.
Archaeological sites - museums Ancient Sparta was situated in the middle of the Eurotas valley surrounded by low hills. The majority of findings were discovered in the acropolis of ancient Sparta, such as the Ancient theatre and the Tomb of Leonida’s, where his remains were buried when brought from Thermopylae. It is built amphitheatrically and has an island character with many of its neoclassic buildings still standing in very good state. On of the most beautiful places in Gythio is the small island Kranai that according to mythology Paris and Helen found refuge just before setting off to Troy. Some of the most beautiful beaches with clear blue waters can be found near Gythio: Skoutari, Vathi, Kamares, Mavrovouni.
Mani Its settlements with few or no inhabitants, its towers, its churches, the ruins of ancient cities, the caves and small coves, its beaches with crystal clear waters, its taverns make up today’s Mani, a destination for visitors all year round. The Diros caves one of the most beautiful caves in Greece, comprise of the most impressive natural sites of Mani.
Monemvasia A beautiful place full of tales, history and magic, surrounded by a protective U-shaped wall. In the walled town of Monemvasia you can visit small shops, coffee shops and restaurants. It has well developed sea-sport facilities for the summer.
